Oxidative Stress Analysis
This is a urine test used to evaluate the body’s oxidative stress status and mitochondrial damage. Normal human metabolism produces highly reactive molecules known as free radicals, typically controlled by antioxidants. When production of free radicals becomes excessive, the antioxidant mechanisms of the cell become overwhelmed, resulting in oxidative damage.
Since oxidative stress can affect cellular function in many body systems, it has been associated with numerous conditions including:
- Chronic Pain/Inflammatory Conditions
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Aging and Neurodegenerative Conditions
- Cancer
The Oxidative Stress Analysis measures these compounds:
1, Lipid Peroxides – reflective of oxidative damage to polyunsaturated fatty acids (components of cell membranes)
2, 8-OHdG – reflective of oxidative damage to DNA – mitochondrial function
